Sermon Title: Jesus Christ, the Holy God.
“Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.” (John 6:68-69)
Dearly Beloved,
Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ
“O holy night, the stars are brightly shining;
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth!”
The world has never known the night to be 'holy'.
In fact, the night – along with the darkness that it brings – is feared.
There is nothing holy about nights; except for that particular night when Christ was born.
That night was not only special; it was consecrated because “it is the night of the dear Saviour’s birth”; and made holy because of its divine connection with Jesus Christ.
Anything in all Creation – both tangible and intangible, seen and unseen – is made holy if it is connected to the Lord Jesus Christ.
The angels who heralded the birth of Christ, the magi from the far east and yes, even the most unlikely shepherds as the world’s first evangelists were consecrated that night because they were connected with the “Holy One of God” (John 6:69)
Our Heavenly Father commands in Leviticus 11:44, “I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy because I am holy.”
Every child of God must be holy because He is holy.
To be consecrated and sanctified; set apart and be made holy unto the Lord – is the Will of God for every believer. (Ref: 1 Thessalonians 4:3)
Have you set yourself apart to be made holy before God?
This can only happen if you have a divine connection with Jesus Christ who revealed clearly to us, “If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
Are you connected to Christ? Do you have a lasting, intimate and personal relationship with Jesus?
Just as Peter declared in John 6:68-69, have you also come to believe that Christ alone is the Holy One of God?
Know that the Holy Spirit – the Spirit of Christ (Ref: Romans 8:9) – is the only One who sanctifies us. (Ref: Romans 15:16)
Only through the Holy Spirit can we ever hope to progress in our relationship to Christ and persevere in Him – to be made holy - even when we continue to fall short of God’s glory.
So, fret not.
If even the darkest night can be made holy because of its connection to Christ, so can you.
Be connected to Christ Jesus.
This is my Christmas prayer for you – that you set yourself apart from sin and the darkness of this world, in order that you may devote yourself to building a divine relationship with Christ Jesus, our Lord and Saviour; and in so doing, be made holy before the Living God.
He is not only the reason for the season; Christ Jesus is the only reason for your salvation and sanctification.
Shalom.
Let us pray.
Our Father in Heaven,
Hallowed be Your Name.
Your Kingdom come, Your Will be done; on earth, as it is in heaven.
Lord Jesus, I come before You; and ask that You would be my Lord, my Saviour, my Friend and my God.
May I remain in You, as You remain in me; that I would bear the fruit of holiness through the work and power of the Holy Spirit in my life.
Lord Jesus, thank You for giving Your life in atonement for my sins; and for revealing to me the Power of Your Resurrection which I would one day partake.
Holy Spirit, grant me the power to set myself apart from sin and the darkness of this world, that I may fully devote myself to building a genuine and divine relationship with Christ.
This Christmas season, grant that my sole desire is to be connected to Christ; and in so doing, be holy, just as You are holy.
I thank You and pray all these in the Name of our King, Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
