‘God the Father Almighty,
Creator of Heaven and Earth’
Dearly Beloved,
Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!
This week, we delve into four significant contemplations into understanding of who our Father in Heaven is when we declare, ‘I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of Heaven and Earth.’
In the weeks that follow, it is my prayer that through the Apostles’ Creed, we will develop a biblical foundation for our faith in God.
With every ‘I believe’ statement that we will unpack, I encourage you to be mindful that the Apostles’ Creed helps us:
And so, with every week of corporate prayer, study and discernment, may we each seek the Lord on our own accord and sought the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our quest to know God more deeply; consequently locating the divine impulse to put into action our lives established on His Son, Jesus Christ.
Let’s dive right in.
When we declare, ‘I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth’, we are declaring our belief that:
To understand and embrace the reality that God is Triune is to reverentially accept the biblical evidence.
Our Lord Jesus Himself lays the foundations of faith in establishing the Doctrine of the Trinity,
25 “All this I have spoken while still with you.
26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
28 “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.
30 I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, 31 but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me.
John 14:25-31
From Christ’s exhortations to His disciples, we learn of the mystery of the Trinity and how our Triune God relates and ministers to us.
Did you know that you had access to the Father Almighty through the Holy Spirit and in the Name of Jesus Christ?
What does this mean for you today as you begin to understand why it is so important for us to embrace the mystery of the Trinity?
The devil has absolutely no hold over Jesus Christ. In fact, he comes so that the world may learn that Christ the Son loves the Father and does exactly what His Father has commanded Him.
If Jesus loves the Father and therefore does exactly as His Father commands, how much do you love Your Father in Heaven?
Do you do exactly as God commands?
Do you even know what He has commanded you to do?
(Brethren, if the Holy Spirit has laid this last question especially deeply to you, please don’t hesitate to connect with me. We will seek the Lord together.)
When we declare, ‘I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth’, we are declaring our belief that:
When we think about the ‘All-Mightiness’ of God, we must be mindful that He is not only the mightiest entity who created the heavens and the earth, He is the only entity capable of creating the heavens and the earth.
There is no other Creator of the heavens and the earth, and all that is in it, including human beings, angels and demons.
There is only one Creator.
Only God, our Almighty Father, and our Creator.
Genesis 1:1-3
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
Genesis 1:26-28
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.
So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
Psalm 100:3
Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
In a worldview that is uniquely and exclusively ‘Christian’, these Holy Scriptures inform us of the existential reality that will eventually be realized by every person, past, present and future.
HE IS GOD.
WE ARE NOT.
WE ARE CREATED IN HIS IMAGE.
GOD RELATES TO US.
WE ARE HIS.
WE ARE ACCOUNTABLE TO HIM.
Yes.
We are accountable to the Father Almighty.
From the beginning, God has tasked and blessed mankind to undertake - as His Co-Regents, created in His image, no less - the ‘Cultural Mandate’ to be fruitful and increase in number; to fill the earth and subdue it; to rule over all earthly Creation. (Genesis 1:28)
As far as we are concerned, there has been no word in the bible that suggests to us that the blessing and task of the Cultural mandate has been retracted due to Man’s fall into sin. We continue to be held accountable by the Lord in fulfilling this mandate.
In fact, it was the work of Christ – so divine and infinitely providential - that will restore mankind to God’s original purpose for us, if only we believe!
How are we accountable to God?
Morally- Leviticus 11:44-45;
I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves along the ground.
I am the Lord, who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God; therefore be holy, because I am holy.
Vocationally - Colossians 3:23-24.
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
A life unaccounted for is a life unaccomplished and unfulfilled.
A life that accounts to no one is a life that counts for nothing.
If you are a true Christian, you will choose live in the singular reality of God’s holiness and that ‘it is the Lord Christ you are serving’.
God is Almighty, and His Almightiness assures us that ‘we lack nothing’ (Psalm 23:1) in life and in death.
The All-Mightiness of our God reflects this assurance in the very first question of the Heidelberg Catechism:
“What is your only comfort in life and death?”
“My only comfort in life and death is that I with body and soul am not my own, but belong to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ who with His precious blood has fully satisfied for my sins and delivered me from the power of the devil and so preserves me that apart from the will of His Father in heaven, not a hair of my head can fall.”
Can you imagine this?
If not for the will of our Almighty Father, not a hair of your head can fall.
That truly speaks of God's All-Mightiness and His Sovereign providence – in His Omnipotence (all powerful), omnipresence (all present) and omniscience (all knowing).
And this is God’s way of saying to us, “I am All-Mighty, and I am also All-Personal.”
So… ...
When we declare, ‘I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth’, we are declaring our belief that:
Again, the Christian Doctrine of God is unequivocal, unique and exclusive in this worldview, in that though God is the Father Almighty, He is also our Father who relates to us personally and intimately.
Psalm 33:18-22 speaks deeply to this reality:
But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield.
In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name.
May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you.
And John 3:16 speaks divinely to this reality:
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
In His love for the world (collective), God gave His Son – Jesus Christ; but it is whoever (individual) believes in Him, who shall not perish but have eternal life.
Salvation may be offered to the world, but the Lord’s salvation is bestowed upon the one who believes.
Our Father in heaven relates to us personally.
He knows of our every need – our need for a full life, our need to be loved, our need to be helped, our need for divine mediation, exoneration and vindication… …
Wait in hope for the Lord, and you will see that He will draw close to you, as you draw close to Him. He is Your Almighty God who is present to you, and who longs for you to come into a personal relationship with Him – His eyes are on those who fear Him, on those who hope is in His unfailing love.
You are His. He made you.
Know the Lord is God. (Psalm 100:3)
Know God. Believe in His Son, Jesus Christ.
And so… …
When we declare, ‘I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth’, we are declaring our belief that:
As we center our paradigms in the tension of knowing our God to be ‘All-Mighty’ and ‘All-Personal’, we come to our final point of contemplation that our God is our Father because of His Son, Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 1:3-10 reveals this precise reality and is one of the key passages that undergirds the Doctrine of Salvation – also known as ‘Soteriology’ -
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.
In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us.
With all wisdom and understanding, he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ
Are you praising God, who is the Father of our Lord Jesus – for He has blessed you in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ?
You should. In fact, you must.
You should wonder to yourself how is it that you have come to know God through Christ in the very first place.
Do you really think that you chose to believe in God? Or did God choose you in Christ before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight?
The Apostle Paul is very clear on the Omniscience of God – in that he uses very strong language to describe believers as being ‘predestined’ for adoption to divine relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
Brethren, we were chosen - before the creation of the world – to be come into this divine relationship with God through Christ.
This is a profound blessing that promises us eternal life and victorious living.
Have you received this blessing?
Like a gift that must be received, unwrapped that it may be revealed and used that it may be fully appropriated, this blessing must be received, revealed and appropriated - to the praise of God’s glorious grace, which He has freely given us in Christ whom He loves.
This is the riches of God’s grace that He lavished on us.
God longs to love us, bless us, and relate to us as He does His Son, Jesus Christ – for it is only in Christ that we have redemption through His blood, which is the forgiveness of sins.
Have you received this blessing?
The inbreaking of God’s Kingdom has commenced. His Kingdom will be fully fulfilled with the return of Christ, our Lord, our Saviour, Our God and Our King.
And God desires to include us in His eternal and glorious Kingdom program where all things in heaven and on earth are brought into unity – into perfection.
Listen carefully, God has made know to us the mystery of His will which He purposed in Christ.
Do you want to be part of God’s purposes? Do you want to be part of eternity?
Have you received this blessing?
In closing, J. I. Packer masterfully concludes for us today -
“When the Christian says the first clause of the creed, he puts all this together and confesses his Creator as both the Father of his Savior and his own Father through Christ. A Father who now loves him no less that He loves His only begotten Son. That is a marvelous confession to be able to make.”
Dr J.I. Packer
God loves you.
And the only way to respond to His love is to:
Confess God as Father, First Person of the Divine Trinity;
Confess God as Father of all Creation – All-Mighty and All-Personal;
Confess God as Father of Jesus Christ, and as your Father through Jesus Christ.
And this is how we receive God’s eternal and glorious blessing for us.
Let us fully believe, and grow deep in relationship, and in love with our God, who is God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth.
What a marvelous confession that we are able to make!
Shalom.
Let us pray.
Our Father in Heaven,
Hallowed be Your Name.
Your Kingdom come, Your Will be done; on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the Kingdom, and the Power and the Glory forever and ever.
My Lord and my God, thank you for Your Revelation of who You are – All-Mighty and All-Personal.
Holy Spirit, guide me in loving God both reverentially and intimately – for it is through Christ Jesus, My Lord and Saviour, that I am profoundly, infinitely and eternally blessed to belong to You and be part of Your Kingdom.
May I always praise my God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
Dear God, may I live in the understanding that I was chosen - in Christ - before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in Your sight.
In love, You have embraced me through Jesus Christ, in accordance Your glorious grace, which You have freely given to me in the Lord Jesus, whom You love.
I believe that in Christ, I have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
I surrender my life and all my plans to You, O God.
May I live in the mystery of Your Will.
May I be purposed in Christ to be part of Your Kingdom inbreaking by the power of the Holy Spirit.
May I never waver in my faith nor falter in my steps in proclaiming Your glory to the world with these resolute words,
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth.
I thank You and pray all these in the Name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.

With every ‘I believe’ statement that we will unpack, I encourage you to be mindful that the Apostles’ Creed helps us:
- Characterize our belief system based on the God of the Bible;
- Correct error;
- Connect with fellow Christians all over the world, past present and future;
- Center our paradigms in the tension of the individual and collective, the present and future Kingdom of God; and
- Counsel our selves, and others, to live out the Christ life.
And so, with every week of corporate prayer, study and discernment, may we each seek the Lord on our own accord and sought the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our quest to know God more deeply; consequently locating the divine impulse to put into action our lives established on His Son, Jesus Christ.

From Christ’s exhortations to His disciples, we learn of the mystery of the Trinity and how our Triune God relates and ministers to us.
- Our Father in Heaven is the sender of the Holy Spirit to us, in Jesus’ Name – in that, as we relate to the Holy Spirit today, we relate in equal depth and intensity with the Father and Son;
- Thus, all things that the Holy Spirit teaches and reminds us are in perfect unity and intensity with that which the Lord Jesus teaches and reminds us – of whom both the Son and the Spirit has been, again, sent by our Father in Heaven;
- Therefore, this same ‘peace’ that was left and given to Christ’s disciples then, is left and given to us – His disciples today – with the same intensity and for the same purposes – which is to live as agents of God in-breaking His Kingdom into the world today;
- Christ’s declaration, “If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.” assures us that in our Lord Jesus, and through the Holy Spirit, we have access to the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth;
Did you know that you had access to the Father Almighty through the Holy Spirit and in the Name of Jesus Christ?
