Sermon Title: FAITH CHARACTERISTICS: CHILDREN BORN OF GOD (Part 2)
12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, (not to) to live according to it.
13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.
14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.
15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship (Ps’ Note: “becoming children of GOD”).
And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”
16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. (Romans 8:12-17)
Dearly Beloved,
Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
Are you led by the Spirit of God?
Are you convicted by the Holy Spirit that you are indeed, a child of the living God?
Are you living in faith that the Spirit of God is upon you – covering, empowering and leading you every step of the way?
For His Love and Salvation, we must be immensely and eternally indebted to God; and our lives – as His Children – must be established in divine gratitude.
Every child of God must be devoted to the sacred duty to living solely by the Holy Spirit through being utterly led by Him.
No one can be “born-again” as God’s child unless “born of the Spirit”. (John 3:8)
There is no such thing as a child of God who is not born of the Spirit–filled and empowered.
Every faithful and professing child of the living God must be vessels completely energized and inspired by the Spirit of God – set apart, made holy for the divine and expressed purpose of making “disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:18-20); inbreaking the Kingdom of God.
Every child of God is led by the Spirit of God; there are simply no exceptions.
Holiness is thus, the main attribute of the children of God.
Before we die according to the flesh, we must put our flesh to death; to completely eradicate and execute every carnal desire – and be wholly empowered by the Holy Spirit in every aspect of our lives as children of the Most High God.
In Christ, our worldly sufferings prepare us for His Kingdom Glory; but only if we are led by the Holy Spirit – with our minds governed by Him.
The Apostle Paul reveals in Romans 8:6-11:
“ 6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.
7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.
8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.
9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you.
And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.
10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness.
11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.”
Such is our obligation – to live by the Spirit of Christ; who testifies to us we belong to Christ and thus, are irrevocably children of the Heavenly Father.
In our sufferings, we must turn to the Holy Spirit – to fill us, to lead us, to guide us and to empower us; to be our everything!
We are strong in our weakness only if the Holy Spirit is upon us.
We have peace in the storms only if the Holy Spirit is upon us.
We are victorious before our enemies only if the Holy Spirit in upon us. We are nothing, and have nothing, without the Spirit of Christ.
Never be found without the Holy Spirit; but be always led by the Holy Spirit:
Consciously – in dutifully setting apart sacred time for prayer; and
Conscientiously – in obediently praying as the Holy Spirit gives you utterance and in accordance to the word of God.
To be found in the Holy Spirit is to participate in the shared-life of His body – the Church; to consistently, corporately acknowledging God, and embracing the testimonies of the Holy Spirit in, and through, us.
As God’s children, our Christian duty must comprise of both devotion and diligence to be led by the Holy Spirit – our minds governed by Him; and filled with His Holy Power through Christ to “put to death the misdeeds of the body” (Romans 8:13) and live exclusively as God’s Righteous children (Romans 8:10).
The earliest disciples fundamentally and radically embraced this reality – and were “all joined together constantly in prayer” (Acts 1:14).
Conscious and conscientious corporate prayer must be our reality in order that we truly become the Church that Christ established.
Today, devote your life to corporate discipleship, fellowship and prayer – as did the early Church (Ref: Acts 2:42-44) – and experience the transforming power of the Holy Spirit that would set you for eternal life as child of the Most High God – “heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ.” (Romans 8:17)
Shalom.
Let us pray.
Our Father in Heaven,
Hallowed be Your Name.
Your Kingdom come, Your Will be done; on earth, as it is in heaven.
Holy Spirit, I ask that You put to death the misdeeds of the body – along with all my own carnal desires – that I may live in accordance to Your Power, and Will; as child of the One, True, Living God.
Cover, empower and lead me in every way, O Holy Spirit!
Where I fail to understand, fill my heart with an overwhelming faith in Your Grace and Mercy over my life.
Thank You for Your sanctifying work in my heart that convicts me daily that I am a child of God – belonging in His family as His heirs and co-heirs with Christ.
Grant me the courage, strength, wisdom and resolve to be devoted to my sacred duty of living solely by You, Holy Spirit – that I am led utterly by You and my mind completely governed by You.
I submit to You alone, O God – and live to bring You glory and pleasure.
Put to death every carnal desire and worldly perspective in my mind and heart – and grant that I may seek only Your Kingdom and Righteousness. (Ref: Matthew 6:33)
Fill me, Holy Spirit!
I belong to You, Lord Jesus!
May my life be truly energized through Your work of setting me apart for Your eternal purposes and making me holy – just as You are holy. (Ref: Leviticus 11:44)
Holy Spirit, set upon me with the deepest desire to participate in the “Disciple Life Prayer Group’ where we will consciously and dutifully set aside sacred time for corporate prayer; conscientiously and obediently praying as You give us utterance in accordance to Your Holy Scriptures.
May my heart, mind, soul and body belong utterly to You, my God – for You are our “Abba Father” and we are Your children.
I thank You and pray all these in the Name of our King, Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
