Thanksgiving Sunday
Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 3:16-17
Dearly Beloved,
Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!
Thanksgiving.
Would we be thankful had it not been for this Holiday?
I am sure that a weekend especially set aside for us to give thanks and be grateful to God for granting us life - along with His many blessings - have been good for our souls and perhaps, even cathartic for some.
But as Christians, ‘being thankful’ goes much deeper than simply feeling grateful for the things in life that we approve of, and revel in.
True and divine gratefulness defies our boundaries of human approval, comfort and perceptions of acceptability of what our lives should encompass or ought to entail; for true and divine gratitude towards God must be expressed in the name of the Lord Jesus through living out the message of Christ.
And that, my brethren, goes beyond that which we can bear to give thanks for – for the message of Christ is a ‘grave’ message, as much as it is a ‘grace’ message.
The message of Christ encompasses all of life – every joy, every sadness, every challenge, every struggle, and every detail of everyday.
Summits are only perceptibly defined in the vastness of valleys; and yet only collectively do they etch out life’s landscape.
In being truly and divinely grateful to God, every circumstance becomes sacred; ceasing to be good or bad.
In being truly and divinely grateful to God, every circumstance becomes subservient to His Sovereignty.
In being truly and divinely grateful to God, every circumstance becomes a means of God’s blessings upon our lives – intended to draw us deeper and more intimately into communion with Him.
Do you recognize the sacredness of your circumstances?
Do you acknowledge the Sovereignty of God over every circumstance?
Do you understand the deeper meanings of blessing?
Is your life centered on God?
A God-centered life is a truly and divinely grateful life; so declares a man who persistently acknowledges God’s Sovereignty, who wisely recognizes the sacredness of his circumstances, and who humbly understands the deeper meanings of blessings -
Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. (Job 1:21 KJV)
Are you wise enough to recognize the sacredness of each of your life’s circumstance?
Do you acknowledge God’s Sovereignty over your life?
Are you humble enough to understand the deeper meanings of blessings?
Would you be able to say under all circumstances, ‘blessed be the name of the Lord’?
Would you truly and divinely be grateful to God the Father by living out the message of Jesus Christ through your word and deed?
Shalom.
Let us give thanks.
Our Father in Heaven,
Hallowed be Your Name.
Your Kingdom come, Your Will be done; on earth, as it is in heaven.
Grant me, O God, an infilling of Your Holy Spirit so that I may be transformed into the likeness of Your Son, Jesus Christ – that in all of life, my proclaimation will forever be, “The Lord gives, and the Lord has taken away, blessed be the Name of the Lord!”
Holy Spirit, guide my spirit to persistently recognize the sacredness of every of life’s circumstance.
Guide my heart to persistently acknowledge the Sovereignty of God over every of life’s circumstance.
Guide my soul to persistently understand the deeper meanings of blessing.
May my life be centered upon You, my God, as I express true and divine gratitude for all that You are to me, and for all that You have purposed me to be.
May I be truly and divinely grateful to God the Father by living out the message of Jesus Christ through all that I do.
Heavenly Father, thank you.
Lord Jesus Christ, thank you.
Holy Spirit, thank you.
I pray all these in the Name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
